Dr. Frederick Preston, renowned for his earlier book, Historic Doorways of San Antonio (Schiffer Publishing, 2012) is a world-traveled photographer; a retired vice president from the State University of New York, Stonybrook; and a volunteer golf coach for children and young teens at The First Tee at Brackenridge Park. He has photographed the landscapes of China, Vietnam, Ghana, Vienna, and Italy and has lived in San Antonio for the last 17 years, where he volunteers for many arts organizations and for Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

Dr. Carmen Tafolla, State Poet Laureate of Texas (2015–16) and the first City Poet Laureate of San Antonio (2012–14), is the award-winning author of more than 30 books, including The Holy Tortilla and a Pot of Beans, Rebozos, and her latest book, a novel in verse, Guerrera Warrior (Penguin Books, 2022). A professor emerita of bicultural bilingual studies at the University of Texas–San Antonio and former president of the Texas Institute of Letters, Tafolla was born and raised in San Antonio, where her ancestors have lived for more than 300 years.
