Andra F. Stanton is a retired psychotherapist currently writing about and manipulating fabric in Boulder, Colorado. She first investigated fiber art for her book?Zapotec Weavers of Teotitlan?(Museum of New Mexico Press). She went on to explore other art forms, especially art quilting, surface design, mixed media, and dimensional composition. Stanton? artwork is based on her psychological response to her physical disability, failed spinal surgery. The best way to find comfort, she has concluded, is contributing to the story of humanity through friendship, altruism, curiosity, and creativity, and celebrating those whose art lifts us all. Stanton is also the author of?Pilates for Fragile Backs?(New Harbinger). Josephine Stealey is chair of the department of art at the the University of Missouri, and a nationally recognized artist and curator.
