Kevin C. Vaughn has grown and hybridized irises for over five decades and was mentored by many of the giants in the iris world. Having gardened in Massachusetts, Mississippi, and Oregon, he has studied iris culture in diverse growing conditions. Kevin has a PhD in plant genetics and spent 30 years working for the USDA as a plant cell biologist. In Kevin's yard, nothing with pollen is safe from his hybridizing over 200 varieties of his plants are on the market, including daylilies, hostas, spiderworts, sempervivum, and of course irises. His two other books for Schiffer include Beardless Irises: A Plant for Every Garden Situation and Sempervivum: A Gardener's Guide to the Not-So-Humble Hens and Chicks.
