These women employed courage and determination through tales of invention, creativity, dogged research, innovation, perspiration, and inspiration that helped shape North America. The range of their accomplishments is vast, the variety of their talents is amazing, and the legacy they have left is enduring. In addition to being of interest to gardeners, this book is an insight into the history of the emerging, developing nations of the USA and Canada, and also a celebration of how women met and overcame obstacles to achieve equality with men. We all owe them a great deal, but many of the featured women are little known and hardly recognized, which makes this book an overdue opportunity to acknowledge their work and celebrate their achievements.
