Before teaching design fundamentals courses for 40 years, Michael Pause was an architect who practiced in Chicago and Boston. He earned a PhD from MIT and an MArch from Washington University in St. Louis. He is coauthor, with Roger Clark, of Precedents in Architecture, an industry standard since 1985 that has been translated into several languages. He has won numerous awards for excellence in teaching, advising, and mentoring. He lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina, with his wife, Katherine.
